SAPA - Sweaty and Practical Attitude

Although booked on a tour, we came off well with a guide: Neiok, to ourselves as we hopped and skipped over rice paddies, buffalo's and small children. Think Sound of Music, Vietnam style!

All four of us sharing this rather small cabin were sure we were going to be deprived of a good nights sleep, that wasn't the case, we slept like babies

Electric cattle prods, but no cattle.  We decided to be good!

Climbing over the rice paddies, through the bamboo field, across a waterfall, sliding down the clay bank. The trek had it all and we were pleasantly surprised. My only disappointment was with the walking sandals that I purchased in Hanoi that broke within an hour.

Reminds me of the 'Green pastures' hymn, I used to sing when I was a young choir boy.
Young buffalo soldiers, getting used to their rides.
In Sapa they truly know how to treat their animals, from giving them cooked meals to providing water spas and a relaxing back massage.

Corn kernals laid out to dry in the sun, the piglets hassling their mother. Neiok and I enjoying the fact that the trek was over.

Left: The trek over, photographic evidence of the flip flops that I borrowed which were 3 sizes too small for my Yeti feet.

Right: There was a landslide, as you can see the people were up in arms over the delay. If you blast rocks with dynamite while people are driving past, you better believe there are going to be delays.

The view of the valley and the rolling mountains was a highlight of the stay.

INMATE of a mountain-dwelling,
      Thou hast clomb aloft, and gazed
From the watch-towers of Helvellyn;
Awed, delighted, and amazed!

(Wayne you'll be the inmate in a mental home, if you write B.S. like that! MB)
